Tantite

Description:

Tantite is a rare mineral found as colorless lustrous grains with other tantalum-bearing minerals in granite pegmatites.

FLORENCE COUNTY: Tantite occurs in the contact zone of the Animikie Red Ace complex pegmatite in sec. 22 T.39N. R.17E near the Pine River. It is associated with a variety of other minerals including elbaite, lepidolite, spodumene, columbite-tantalite, wodginite, and microlite (Falster et al., 1995).

MARATHON COUNTY:  Tantite has been found in microscopic crystals in the Nine Mile granite, near Wausau.
