Bedrock Geology of Lafayette County, Wisconsin

Located primarily in the Driftless Area of southwest Wisconsin, Lafayette County is underlain by Paleozoic-aged bedrock, primarily siliciclastic and carbonate sedimentary units. These sedimentary rocks were mildly deformed during the Paleozoic, with fold amplitudes and fault offsets rarely exceeding 200 ft. Mapping in Lafayette County provides geologic data to support various groundwater-related and economic geology questions and builds on prior work in the mining districts of the county, as well as recent mapping at finer scale by WGNHS staff. The report provides insight on the mapped geology and structure, including the accompanying rasters of buried bedrock surfaces, and gives an overview of uncertainties estimated for the mapped contacts.
